The present edition of the book has been revised, and new data included to make it up to date. The general plan of the book has been retained but some chapters have been readjusted to accommodate new chapters, Mating and Parental care, Migration, Pollution of water, Growth and Age determination, Deep sea fishes, and Prawn culture. Several chapters of the previous editions have also been revised and many new figures have been added. besides there, a concise account of the anatomy of Scoliodon, has been included in Chapter 4. Examples from Indian species have generally been taken, so that students offering 'Fish and Fisheries' for various University examinations, will find it more useful. S. S. Khanna has done his Master's degree in Zoology from Agra University and awarded Ph.D degree by the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on his Studies on Fishes. He has published more than 90 research papers in various journals and has a long teaching experience of degree and post-graduate classes. He was Professor of Zoology at the Udai Pratap College, Varanasi and D.S.B. Government College, Nainital; Principal Government Postgraduate College, Pithoragarh and K. N. Government College, Gyanpur (Varanasi); Joint Secretary Government of Uttar Pradesh and retired as Director of Higher Education, Uttar Pradesh.
