An Introduction To Mechanics 1st Edition is an excellent textbook for an initiation into the study of Mechanics in Fundamental Physics at the undergraduate level.

    Summary Of The Book

An Introduction To Mechanics 1st Edition is an in-depth and comprehensive study of the fundamental concepts of mechanics. Aimed at students who have a background in mathematics and a basic understanding of Calculus, the book discusses only the essential concepts and principles in mechanics in order to prevent confusion and over loading of information for the students.

The topics covered in the book include Work and Energy, Central Force Motion, Vectors and Kinematics, a few Mathematical Preliminaries, Angular Momentum and Fixed Axis Rotation, Relativistic Kinematics, Momentum, the Harmonic Oscillator, Newton’s Law - The Foundations of Newtonian Mechanics, Special Theory of Relativity, Some Mathematical Aspects of Force and Energy, Non Inertial Systems and Fictitious Forces, Four Vectors and Relativistic Invariance, Rigid Body Motion and the Conservation of Angular Momentum, and Relativistic Momentum and Energy.

An Introduction To Mechanics 1st Edition has more than 700 illustrations to demonstrate the concepts explained and has content-wise questions given at the end of each chapter to help the students revise and understand the information better. The questions are graded according to their difficulty with answers provided for the difficult ones. The book also has several solved examples and practice sets of questions to enhance the students’ analytical aptitude.

An Introduction To Mechanics was first published in 1973 and is a considered a classic textbook on an introduction to principles and concepts of mechanics. It prepares the students exceptionally well for future research and studies in mechanics and physics.

Besides An Introduction To Mechanics, Daniel Kleppner is also the co-author of Quick Calculus: A Self-Teaching Guide and co-editor of Atomic Physics 7.

Daniel Kleppner has written the book in an easy to understand and precise language and has refrained from providing excessive information to students at the undergraduate level.

Born on 16 December, 1932, Daniel Kleppner obtained his BS degree from Williams College in 1953, then a BA degree from Cambridge University in 1955, and his PhD from Harvard University in 1959. He is currently the Lester Wolfe Professor of Physics at MIT. He was also the Director at the MIT-Harvard Center for Ultracold Atoms from 2000 - 2007. Amongst other honours, Daniel Kleppner has been awarded the Davisson-Germer Prize in Atomic or Surface Physics by the American Physical Society in 1986, the Wolf Foundation Prize in Physics in 2005, and the National Medal of Science in 2006.

Robert J. Kolenkow is an American Physicist and the co-author of the classic textbook in Physics, An Introduction To Mechanics.
He has also co-written Physical Geography Today: A Portrait of a Planet.

Robert Kolenkow provides in-depth information and detailed explanations on technical concepts in his book with clarity and a straightforward style of writing.

A great book for undergraduate study.

This is a really good book for undergraduate study and is a must for conceptual elevation to a level that is beyond that found during Std. 12th study. But I wouldn't recommend this to someone who is just starting with mechanics. For such students, Resnick & Halliday's book might be a better option. The author assumes that the reader is familiar with the concepts at a certain level.
There are three things about this book which I'd like to mention:
    1. Like many other great books (mostly by aut...

    K&K Review

The book explains all the basic concepts of mechanics very well. Examples and exercises are excellent. But the content for the number of pages is quite less.

Recommended for a student who has good calculus basics. Book is easy to read, and contains advanced applications and theory, towards the end of each chapter.

    Much better than Spiegel.

It's an extremely good book. It is very well written and helps the reader to get a intuitive idea about the subject. Numerals are also good and conceptual. I have found the rotational mechanics was written very good. Its a very complete book even for competitive exams compared to Spiegel which has very hard numericals with no conception.

    Brilliant

Book arrived in a good condition. This is an excellent book for studying mechanics of heigher level. Given the fact that it is an reference book for first year B.S. Physics at IISC Banglore and IIT Kanpur. For those who want more mathematical and theoretical approach I would also recommend Fundamentals of Mechanics by I.E.Irodov.
