RTN 16 - A networking power house

I purchased this router hearing from a colleague. As usual flipkart delighted me by sending it in just 2 days.
This powerhouse has a 420MHz Broadcom processor and 128 MB ram. But the stock software provided by Asus isn't enough to exercise its capabilities. dd-wrt provides fantastic firmware to fully exploit the power of this machine.
Now I have my personal web server running on this machine for home use. There are endless possibilities. One just needs to know unix, programming and some netwo...

Great range, very customizable

The router has great range and is extremely versatile. I needed to tinker with the router and this was one of the best.

Default firmware is good, with its cloudprint and other such features, but I did not care about those so removed that early on.

Installed TomatoUSB on it and enabled a large number of features like SMB (NAS), FTP, SSH, Transmission (Torrent) and for a brief window of time ran a Tor node out of it also. Everything worked seamlessly, though it did run into a very small numbe...

Most Pathetic Router ever seen

Do not buy it! This router hangs every 2-3 days. Needs to reboot. Shared printer stop working after some time. Shared disk stops working. Upgraded the firmware & what not. WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its worth the price

I bought this router to access my HP Deskjet printer wirelessly from my PC, laptop and tablet. I followed the instruction given on the ASUS support website and I was able to configure the printer with out any problems.

I was also able to use a 32GB pen drive connected to the router as a shared drive.

In many blogs and websites I have read the stock firmware having problems and people have replaced it with open source software like Tomato USB. So far I have not faced any serious issues. (I ...

great router that can manage AIRPLAY with a few hacks

firstly if the price were around 5000 bucks it would be a steal.

pros

fast, pretty fast
fully compatible with other firmwares tomato and ddwrt
airplay,--YES - WITH SHAIRPORT YOU CAN USE THIS TO CONNECT TO SPEAKERS TO PLAY MUSIC WIRELESSLY FROM YOUR PHONE OR TAB. just stick in a behringer uca 202 usb sound card(2,500 rs) and you can use it for music streaming to speakers

cons

Router with Wireless N + extra but..

- expensive for router with storage, Printer and media server.
-- scan capabilities of printer is not supported. unfortunately, not able to configure printer through router services.
- storage sharing is not reliable.
- throughput and range is less then DIR-625 dlink router cost@ 2k only.

++ custom firmwares from dd-wrt and tomato works great and lot of customization possible.
+ flashy stock firmware from Asus.
