Set in the city of Kolkata, the book narrates the tale of Ayantika, Deb, Vinod, Sagarika and Sujoy. The author gives us an interesting insight into their confused world.

Deb, a playboy meets Ayantika online who changes his life. Ayantika is a typical modern girl who aspires to have a career and be independent. The other friend, Saurav is a shy youngster who is petrified to reveal his emotions for Tina. Vinod, is the recluse who has has a secret that dominates his life.

Should Ayantika marry or get a job? What decides a person’s sexual orientation? Do online romances last? Is a girl selfish for pursuing her own interests?

Ayantika, Deb and the other friends are entangled in a complex web of love, career, sex and romance. Autumn in my Heart has many different characters who are struggling with their emotions and discovery of what true love means.

The mutual thread that is common to these individuals is their eternal confusion and the seasonal transformations that they undergo through the course of the novel. The author uses pathetic fallacy to portray the many emotions of these characters.

Basu has tried to unravel and demystify the trials and tribulations of the younger generation. The author explores the fast pace of life today and the fickle relationships.

The author gives an insight into the day-to-day life of these youngsters and reveals the different aspects of life like happiness, the problems, the sorrows and the possible solutions.
