Description

palm seeds are the by-product of date stoning, either for the production of pitted dates or for the manufacture of date paste. The date seed is a hard coated seed, usually oblong, ventrally grooved, with a small embryo. Date pits weigh 0.5 g to 4 g and represent 6 to 20% of the fruit weight depending on maturity, variety.

Uses	t can be used to make household items or to replace peat moss. Most people don't eat oil palm fruit. Instead, the pulp and seeds of the fruit are crushed to make vegetable oil, which is used in many foods and cosmetics.
Soil Nutrient Requirements	Moist, deep and well drained medium textured soils rich in humus content are considered ideal. Gravelly and sandy soils, particularly the coastal sands are not ideal for oil palm cultivation.
Sowing Method	Palm seeds require high temperatures for best germination. Seventy to 100°F is the accepted range, and 85–95°F probably yields the best results. Seed of most palms can be germinated in full sun, though leaves of some species may bleach slightly. Seed of understory palms are best germinated in shade.

Store palm seed dry in sealed plastic bags at temperatures above 65°F. Life in storage will vary from several weeks to over a year. A 1 to 7 day presoak in water is recommended for palm seeds before planting. The water should be changed daily.
