The combination of one fluorite and one super UD element enhances the contrast and resolution of the shot images, and also reduces chromatic aberrations. The side window on the lens hood lets you adjust the speciality filters without removing the hood.
The inner focusing AF, in combination with optimised AF algorithms, lets you focus on a subject that is up to 3.2 feet away, that too with .31x maximum magnification. The L-series super-telephoto zoom allows you to capture minute details of the subject. The rotation-type zoom ring has an adjustable zoom torque that lets you customise the zooming performance efficiently.
The lens features an optical image stabiliser that provides up to 4 steps of image correction.
The Air Sphere Coating on the lens prevents backlight flaring, the fluorine coating on the lens surfaces (both front and rear) prevents fingerprints and smears. The rugged construction enhances durability while the water-resistant capabilities allow you to use the lens in a range of harsh environments.
The tripod mount is designed in a way that it can be attached or detached without removing the lens from the camera.
