    Summary of the Book

Capital in the Twenty-First Century, written by French economist Thomas Piketty discusses one of the most controversial issues of wealth distribution in the world. The book provides a deep insight into the wealth and income inequality in the US and Europe in the 18th century. The central theme of the book is the inequality of wealth does not happen by accident but it is because of influence of capitalism. He also writes that wealth accumulates if the rate of return on capital exceeds the economic growth rate. This will with time leads to concentration of wealth and economic instability. Capital in the Twenty-First Century will make for an ideal read for economists and those interested in knowing about the changing trends in world economy.

    Good

The author analyses inequality in the western world. He uses historical data, charts etc to clarify his point of view. But except for the analysis, he suggests no new remedy other than increased taxes on wealth and income which has in the past proved to be ineffective. A traditional left liberal perspective on inequality and its consequences.

    CAPITAL in the 21st Century

Its a brilliantly written book. It starts by clearing the bare basic concepts of income and capital, and slowly delves deeper and deeper into the main theory. What I liked is that the author hand-holds the reader all the way, Without the use of exotic math equations and jargon.

    Human nature fails economists!
All economist fail to understand that the human nature does not allow to achieve what economists envision. Great insight but no convincing answer apart from taxing the rich.

    Inequality measured

Instead of relying on imaginary notions, science seeks truth from the factual studies. Here inequality in the society is measured in a most scientific way. A brilliant application of the Marxian methodology.
