PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION An Indian medical graduate should have a sound knowledge of Biochemistry, which includes a systematic study of various biochemical processes associated with health and disease & the analysis of constituents of body fluids or tissue fluids to facilitate diagnosis & prognosis of various diseases. This Competency Based Practical Biochemistry Textbook has been prepared as per the the Competency based undergraduate curriculum for Indian medical graduate prescribed by the Medical Council of India. The cardinal concepts are translated from bench to bed side to suit the undergraduate learning. It emphasizes on competency based undergraduate curriculum with a special focus on early clinical exposure by including guidelines to the students in the laboratory regarding experiments, Quantitative experiments, Demonstrations & Case studies/Case based learning. It also elaborates upon vital topic Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE) and its types: unobserved type, response type and performance type. This shall expedite the thorough understanding of practical and clinical aspects of Biochemistry in Medicine by medical students.
