The first edition of this book authored by Mr. P. P.Sharma, senior regulatory officer of the Govt. of Delhi was published in 1998. There was no standard cosmetic book by Indian author. Foreign books like Harry's Cosmeticology, Cosmetics - Science & Technology edited by E. Sagarin et al are very costly and are available with only limited booksellers. As such, accessibility to these books was limited. This book has filled this gap. Another good feature of this book is that chemical names of cosmetics have been used in formulae appearing in the book. Where trade name of a chemical compound has been used, its chemical nature has been defined. The subsequent editions of this book after review and update were published in the following years : Second edition 2001 Third edition 2005 Fourth edition 2008 Reprint of Fourth edition 2010 Fifth edition 2014
