*Portrait of Ambroise Vollard* (1910)- Ambroise Vollard (1867-1939) was a well-known art trader in the twentieth century. He supported artists such as Paul Cézanne, Vincent Van Gogh, Renoir, Gauguin, and Henri Matisse. He was a strong supporter of Picasso's blue and rose eras, although he was wary of cubism. The first things the eye latches on to in this cubist style picture are Vollard's downcast eyes, which appear to be closed, the tremendous explosion of his bald head, which multiplies itself up the canvas like an egg being burst open, his bulbous nose, and the black triangle of his beard. ******** PABLO PICASSO (1881-1973) is universally renowned as one of the most influential and celebrated artists of the twentieth century; in terms of art, and art movements that occurred over this period.
