  • Description

For as long as mankind has existed, for as long as there has been a recorded history, civilizations, nations, tribes, countries and cities have had to deal with one another. Diplomacy is the political history of how these relations have been made and broken, how foreign policy has shaped nations and how it has resulted in sometimes tempestuous consequences.

    Summary of the Book

Through the words of a noted former US Secretary of State readers are drawn into the world of foreign relations. Kissinger speaks about how the the last three centuries have proven pivotal in the making and breaking of nations. Beginning with the peace treaties signed between May and October 1648 which signalled the end of the Eighty Years' War between Spain and the Dutch Republic, and the Thirty Years' War in the Holy Roman Empire, Kissinger goes on to show how Spain finally recognized the Dutch Republic, paving way for national self-determination like never before. He also talks about his own contributions to Nixon's policies, hiding nothing from the readers. From ages, Kissinger shows us, little has changed about the world order, and there is yet ample to learn from the past.

    A Paradox read.

It is astonishing to consider the full arc of Henry Kissinger's influence on U.S. and world politics, spanning as it does close to six decades, 11 presidents and four generations' worth of dangerous events. Great book n the reader should know what he seeks to gain..
