Summary of the Book

Jack has new troubles. Gone are the days of the beanstalk, now he needs to escape with the skin of his teeth as he rushes to Bigby Wolf to report a terrible crime. Meanwhile, the Director of Operations Snow White has problems of her own. Beauty and the Beast to be specific. Beast has trouble maintaining his human form, and it's all Beauty's fault. The angrier she gets during arguments, the beastlier he becomes. Snow White hates this, she had enough drama with the Seven Dwarfs to play marriage counsellor to these two. When Beauty brings up the fact that Snow divorced Prince Charming centuries ago, and had certain adventures with the Dwarfs, Snow White becomes furious and the couple are whisked away by Boy Blue. Snow White tries to put them off her mind but she has other things to worry about, her ex, Prince Charming, is back in town. But when Bigby Wolf arrives to tell her of the Crime Jack reported, she finds that's not the end of her problems. Her sister Rose Red is missing, not something unusual given her taste in wild parties and men, however the blood spatter in her house is more than unusual, especially the words it spelled. Indeed, there'd be no more happily ever after.

Bill Willingham is an American comic book writer and artist, known for his work on the Fables series and Elementals. He has also worked on The Sandman Presents series, Day of Vengeance, Justice Society of America and Angel: Immortality for Dummies.

Born in Virginia, Bill grew up working on role-playing games, and working background panels for various comics. He also contributed panels to Green Lantern and worked on his own titles around that time. He has been awarded fourteen Eisner awards for Fables, including the Best New Series, Best Serialized Story, Best Anthology, Best Short Story, Best Penciller/Inker or Penciller/Inker Team and Best Writer.
