The First Three Minutes (English, Paperback, Weinberg Steven)
The First Three Minutes by Steven Weinberg, as the name suggests, tells the remarkable story of our universe just after it was born.
Summary of the Book
We had a beginning. At least, the current science has accepted it. And it happened with an infinitely dense, hot and energetic point expanding rapidly to create space and time along with its expansion. The current state of the universe is reached after a series of eventful epochs in its evolution. Steven Weinberg's The First Three Minutes talks about the first few crucial stages of the universe, as it experienced some of the most spectacular phenomena of physics unravelling with it. This book delves deeply into what happened in the very early moments of the beginning. Steven takes an elaborative, yet a very interesting approach in explaining the events of extreme proportions that shaped the universe during its first few minutes. The book covers a very short time span of three minutes from 'Planck epoch', which is from 0 to tredecillionth (10^-42) of a second after the Big Bang - where all the fundamental forces were united and the quantum effects of gravity was still present - to the 'Photon' and 'Nucleosynthesis' epochs when the universe was lit up with photons or 'light', and first matters started to form. Steven Weinberg, in this brilliant narrative, takes the reader on one of the most thrilling rides through the dimensions of space and time. The First Three Minutes is a perfect food for thought for anyone with a fascination to know how it was like during the moments of singularity or right after the birth of our universe.
About Steven Weinberg
Steven Weinberg is probably one of the few physicists who have dedicated their entire life in finding the ultimate equation of physics – combining General Relativity and Quantum Field Theory to find that one elegant theory that could explain everything in a simple set of mathematical expressions. He currently holds the Josey Regental Chair in Science at the University of Texas at Austin, where he also serves as the faculty of the Physics and Astronomy departments. He has his alma mater in some of the world's finest universities and research institutions. After completing his Ph.D. from Princeton, he worked as the post-doctoral researcher in Columbia University and UC Berkeley. Eventually he served as a faculty in UC Berkeley, Harvard, MIT, and various other institutions. His research works include fields like Cosmology, Quantum Field Theory, Standard Model, Effective Field Theories, Supersymmetry and several other exotic branches of physics. He was honoured with the Nobel Prize in Physics, with other two physicists, for the extraordinary contributions towards the unification of Electromagnetism and Weak Force.
