W.H. Moreland was a pioneer in the study of the economic history of medieval India. This book provides the angle from which a colonial historian looked at the economy of Mughal India. The work has been used extensively by economic historians of Mughal India like Irfan Habib and Shireen Moosvi. In fact Irfan Habib's classic work on the economic history of Mughal India "The Agrarian Sytem of Mughal India" used this book as one his sources.
