It is indeed a good treatise to read if studying democracy. Besides presenting different perspectives necessary to understand modern democracy, it also makes for an engaging read. Coupling this with other academic studies of democracy, one will understands and the concepts required for modern understanding of today's democracy.

Mr. Zakaria might be involved in the controvery regarding plagiarism. Ignoring that, this is a very good book for its analysis.
But the book is published in 2003-04 and deals with the democracy in american life and system. You can always link it to our system.
If the price is OK, it is a very nice book.
