  • Description

A Guidebook To Mechanism In Organic Chemistry, written by Peter Sykes, is a book that covers all the aspects of Organic Chemistry with some additions to the previous edition. This book contains new information like the ipso aromatic substitution, the mechanisms of nucleophilic substitution, and the usage of activation parameters. This guidebook gives an introduction to activation parameters like the Dimorth’s ET Parameter and also spectroscopic data.  The book has the basic theme of mechanism at every level, and therefore covers the topics of structures, energy, and kinetics from this perspective. A Guidebook To Mechanism In Organic Chemistry covers topics like acid and base strength. It also includes the mechanics involved in electrophilic and nucleophilic substitutions. The book presents these substitutions with regard to the saturated carbon atom and electron-deficient nitrogen and oxygen atoms. The book also presents the studies on aromatic compounds. Further, the book puts forth discussions on elimination reactions, carbanions, and radicals. It also has chapters on symmetrically controlled reactions and linear free-energy relationships.

Peter Sykes was born on February 19, 1923. He is a prominent chemist and has served at the Christ’s College, Cambridge University as a Vice-Master. His book on Organic Chemistry is being widely used at the undergraduate level.  He died on October 24, 2003.

I ordered this book from Flipkart ..got it in 26 hrs.Flipkart ROCKS ! :D
I am nobody to judge a book of this level ..but yes this book is helpful .
Every line in this book is to be read at least 2-3 times.
It's concise ..saves our time ....is better then those heavy 1000 page books....
    It is portable !(small size)
    Overall a nice book !

    Rocket in your pocket

I was introduced to this book by my Organic Chem teacher at Bansal classes back in 2005. Dont be fooled by the size of this book, its a veritable resource on Organic chemistry in its own right. It gives you a low-down of reactions at a level no book does. Every word and line in this book is important and nothing can be ignored. When you read this book, stay sharp and you will be delighted

    A book in detail.

It is for those who know their basics well. Not really for 12th students. Will be helpful in the engineering course. Know your college books well first. And good luck! :)
