  • Description

Get numbers to work for you, and not against you with this hilariously illustrated books on faking it numerically! How To Lie With Statistics is a mathematics book for you if you’re looking to bamboozle the boss with numbers, statistics and more!

    Summary of the Book

Numbers are frightening. People take them for granted, believing the sometimes unavoidably clandestine world of averages, correlations, graphs, and trends. Darrell Huff writes about how people around the world fool the numerically challenged with fancy graphs and statistics, getting the results they want. Wall Street, he tells us, is continuously employing these tactics to control the economy. Well, if they can, so can we, he assures us and goes on to pen one of the most witty and mathematical sound books of its time, describing how not to get fooled by numbers. Of course, he teaches readers how to fool others, but expects them to make the choice between being wary and being on the side of the criminal calculators, a risk he takes with solid statistics on his side.

    About Darrell Huff

Darrell Huff was an American writer, also remembered for writing: Twenty Careers of Tomorrow, How to Take a Chance: The Laws of Probability, The Complete How to Figure It. Using Math in Everyday Life, and How to Figure the Odds on Everything.

Huff introduced hundreds of children and laymen to the wonder and joy of statistics, teaching college level principles with ease and humour. A graduate of the University of Iowa, he served as editor of Better Homes and Gardens and Liberty magazine for a brief stint before turning to writing fulltime.

Delightful book to give you a smile and some realisation!

Recommended by my brother, searched and received from flipkart timely, this is a great read to know how you are flooded with stats that do not mean what they appear to be.

Highly recommend it! You will love it. Its vintage too, first published in 1954. Dont be fooled anymore by the statistics thrown at you!

    Different perspective

Although some of the matter in the book is familiar to almost everyone who has gone through some basic statistics, the highlight is the perspective the author gives on statistics. It was definitely worth a read, especially for anyone who is interested or uses statistics
