Perfect for the amatuer history reader
Well, this book covers a lot of ground as far as our history goes, starting from harappa culture all the way upto post-independence india, this book gives a comprehensive look at the indian history. Having said that, i was afraid initially, as this is my first attempt at a history novel i thought that it may be too dry for my tastes. Simply superb !!!
'Ambitious, colorful and fascinating' is what The Times has to say about this book and I can't agree more! Perhaps, I must also add 'balanced' to the list :)
I always felt that history was boring with all the dates and names to remember, but John Keay's, India A History, is more like an extremely interesting story book except that the characters and events are very real!

A must 'ave book on the History of India
An excellent introduction to the complete history of India starting from mythical antiquity to the death of Indira or thereabouts. Wonderfully written and perfectly split into periods so you can visualize the gradual formation of the India we all love and live in today. Keay's language is neither too dull to make you want to call an early night nor too embellished make you miss the historical point. A Good Read
