Personally, I won't recommend this book to beginners who are getting introduced to Solid State Physics. Although the language written is easy to read, the content is not enough for in depth knowledge. But the exercises at the end of each chapter are good and are recommended to solve.
For in depth study or to develop foundational knowledge, I would rather recommend Ashcroft and Mermin. The language is tougher than Kittel but the mathematical foundation is crystal clear. One needs to study each...
