A welcome work in the relatively unexplored Crime Fiction Genre in India

Realistic characters, accustomed settings, so familiar to a common man's eyes, and believable events, the novel not only keeps you involved till the very end, but also, sort of, endorses a woman's conduct, what, by now, has been branded in the Indian culture as necessarily objectionable. What makes it all the more unanticipated is the number of characters, and the frequency with which they make their way into the plot. It keeps you guessing until the penultimate chapter, and what-next element...

Excellent Plot

Excellent plot, adroitly concluded. Though it is set in the older times, yet it's very modern in its approach. The unthinkable end provides the perfect icing on the top. Yet, I think the writer could play with the patience of the reader a little more in the climax.

An Indian-at-Heart Read

Though the novel is written in English, the author has done a commendable job in giving it a local touch by using almost exact equivalents of Hindi/Punjabi terms in English when a dialogue ensues, unlike the growing tendency even among the most successful of Indian English authors to use Hindi terms in their pure form to connect with the local masses. A very interesting read; yet, I feel it could have been made even more thrilling, if the disclosure was delayed a bit longer. More flesh could ...

Thrill at its very best

I am a casual reader. By casual I mean I can't stick to a book for many pages if its story denies to move on. I was moved by the back-page teaser of this novel to give it a chance, but it had so much more to offer. The novel can by no means be represented by some 100-odd-word blurb. So many sub-plots run together, though they are closely-linked. Story moves on unabashedly, and suspense snowballs along. The author knows his craft well, and knows well what to throw to the reader where things ar...

A Typical Page-turner

This is what describes the book best. It doesn't let you let go of it. One page beckons the next, and this continues till the very end. Brilliant plot; it weaves its way through a long succession of narrow alleys of events, like those in Amritsar itself, where the whole story transpires. You can’t expect what sharp turn one will take into another, until it happens. Enjoyed to the fullest. Couldn't expect any more suspense in one read.

Tasteful Read

One sub-plot ends, the next one begins, and where it ends yet another begins. No sooner is the reader about to forget the track of the opening one than it resumes yet again. Finally, all tumble and roll down into a single conclusive plot, that leaves the reader waiting for the imminent with bated breath. The intimate scenes are interestingly strewn into the narrative, which are far removed from being called vulgar. However, not meant for those given exclusively to the monotonic literary fiction.

Female-centered, multi-layered

Provides for a good plot for a commercial movie. The multi-layered story swallows you and pins you down to your chair. A woman's stance is epitomized in an altogether different and rebellious light. Very well written.

Savage towards the end

Most definitely a page turner. It talks about intrigues, illicit relationships, and, in bits and pieces, sex too - all that makes a novel one-sitter. A murder or two could be spared in the end to keep it less savage in the end.

Setting new paradigm in Thriller Writing in India

Until now, more of Indian writers have applied themselves to literary fiction, that appealed more to mature readership. Some tries have been made by the Indian writers over years to make the writing more interesting, and The Last Rain appears to be attaining the desired maturity. Moreover, it's a thriller written in a literary style. The only thing that detracts is the number of characters whose track, as the events goes by, becomes a little difficult to maintain.

Cautiously Racy

A typical thriller, but it's pace is wisely kept under control. Have all the makings of a bestseller. it's get known to the reader in the beginning of the plot a murder has to happen, but murder does take place, but in a very later part of the novel. It's not about who will get murdered, but who will do it, and why will he get it done. But, somewhere along the way, you begin to doubt if the girl to get murdered is really one you had assumed to be the assured victim in the beginning, or someon...
