Good intro to common law
I guess "Law - A Very Short Introduction" by Robert Wacks is complementary to it as it deals with law in general rather than just English legal system. So these both books are good for introduction.
Another good one, I guess is "Philosophy of Law" by Wacks himself and even that is complementary to both of these two.
