  • Description
Michael Lewis was fresh out of Princeton and the London School of Economics when he landed a job at Salomon Brothers, one of Wall Street's premier investment firms. During the next three years, Lewis rose from callow trainee to bond salesman, raking in millions for the firm and cashing in on a modern-day gold rush. Liar's Poker is the culmination of those heady, frenzied years-a behind-the-scenes look at a unique and turbulent time in American business. From the frat-boy camaraderie of the forty-first-floor trading room to the killer instinct that made ambitious young men gamble everything on a high-stakes game of bluffing and deception, here is Michael Lewis's knowing and hilarious insider's account of an unprecedented era of greed, gluttony, and outrageous fortune.

It is an all-rounder. Go long on it!

This is a thoroughly informative account of the author’s experiences as he began his career in Solomon Brothers as a bond salesman until he quit his job. The book is written in a very humorous and sometimes cynical style as he describes the office dynamics, greed and arrogance, and events that unfolded during the 1980s in the bond market. That period is now referred to as the Merger Mania/ Junk Bond Mania which is widely said to be catalyst for the stock market crash in 1987.

    A masterpiece indeed

The book is funny, and gives an inside view of wall street of the 1980s. Also it gives a pretty good picture of how the bond markets work.

After reading, you (like the author) will also wonder why wall street pays such fantastic amounts of money to people for virtually doing nothing. Making phone calls and moving around bits of paper - that's what they do to make a fortune.

Enjoyable read on the American Bond Market

Before I comment on the book, I must thank Flipkart for their impeccable on time delivery.

Now coming to the review, the first Michael Lewis book I had read was "The Big Short" and this book is no different. It has the right mix of content and fluidity to keep you glued to the book. It explains the rise of the trillion dollar bond market, and with it the rise and fall of Solomon Brothers in a witty and humorous way .
Though the writer has tried his best to explain most of the financial ter...

    Classy product

Hilarious! This one of the honest books which gives you the overview of the inside of fancy world of investment banking. No wonder why Micheal Lewis is among the top league of non fiction writer. Many times you will be laughing while reading and people around you are going to ask you if you are reading PG Wodehouse or a non fiction book on a boring subject like finance.

Satirical, Fun and Quite Informative Look at Life on Wall St.

This book is an account of author’s (Michael Lewis) stint as an investment banker. With a quick overview of his educational qualifications, Lewis moves on to describe the funny way his recruited into the banking profession. His description of events and exploration of stereotypical mindset is vivid and humourous. The way he describes his bosses and managers is particularly hilarious. There are quite a few pages dedicated to explanation of mortgage and bond markets, which quite surprisingly is...
