  • Description

Kudaisya's biography explores all the aspects of this legendary figure. Elegantly written, it reconstructs Birla's eventful public and private life drawing upon the rich historical evidence available in his private papers. Kudaisya was the first scholar to have unrestricted access to these papers. This book is not simply a story of onr of the greatest Indians of our times, but also provides a window on the transformation which India has witnessed during the twentieth century. It shows how Birla's life was marked by a complex interplay of profit, power and piety.

    Incredible attempt

I feel the book has been very well written by the author to cover all aspects of the life of a great visionary. It reflects how the Private sector developed in the british period and thereafter , fighting all along the indifferent attitude of the govt towards capitalism, which finally prroved to be the important reason towards the industrial developmant that India rightly deserves. Also the diplomatic relations a busimessman ought to maintain in the political circles has also been highlighted...

    Extensive

Very extensively written book, maybe a bit boring due to it. An intricate yet enjoyable book. Recommended to all those interested in the family history. I think this is the first book to have been written after access to the private Birla Papers(their family records.
