Unlock the secret wonder that is India, a land of magic, an old world hidden from the new yet seamlessly blending at times, with Lonely Planet India, a tourist guide to take readers off the road and into the heart of what truly makes India what it is.

    Summary of the Book

Finding your way about any country is a difficult task. It is only more so when that country has taken millennia of culture and mixed it with a new world that is entirely alien to itself. India is a complex caricature of temples and flea-markets, forests, fortresses and cities blend into a mix that seems daunting it its own citizens. Yet to explore India, as the Lonely Planet editorial board shows, is to walk through a vast expanse of humanity and culture. Languages and dialects change with every village, people behave differently across every street and the landscape morphs so frequently that it would seem like its a mix of a world that should have been lost to the ravages of time and a world that is trying to catch up. Including amazing photographs and secret locations of the best places to catch a view or a meal, this guide serves as the end-all and be-all guide for travellers roughing it on the dusty roads of the country of the Mughals and the Guptas. Learn the history of the Taj Mahal, the greatest monument to one man's love for his wife and learn the knick-knacks of the country once coveted by every other around it, for its wealth of tradition, culture and sights to soothe a lifetime of memories.

    Incredible Guide

I being a travel freak has always been on lookout for authentically informative travel books. There are many good quality travel magazines available in the market for first hand information. Then more specifically there are travel brochures available with different state tourism corporations offices. Despite all the plethora of information available about travelling, one still yearns to have a single book which provides comprehensive travel information and it is when LONELY PLANET comes into ...

    Just okay

If you were expecting a lot of pictures and a colorful guide book, do not get this. This is more of prose and local information with phone nos and other stuff like open timings of a place eg. Park opens at 6am and closes at 7pm. Nowadays who buys a book to get phone nos. There is always google. I wanted a coffee table book more like a leisure read on and off. This is not one. And the price - I got it at Rs. 1320 not worth at all. Expected a shiny catalogue of exciting places ended up with a d...

    Lonely Planet - India

A book that focuses on breadth in terms of the number of cities and important tourist places, it is more likely to appeal to a tourist visiting India. I found that for every city / town, the number of hotels / food options etc are very selective. However, the descriptions of each tourist point of interest have been articulated well. How to reach a particular city / town - has also been described well. Lovely visuals. All in all a collector's book. Yet, I would recommend the Outlook Traveller ...

    Does the job

A lot has been said about this old travel companion but to say the least it gives you a good idea about the historical places but having said that, the revised edition needs a strong go through with the prices they have mentioned in for transport and food, more than 70% of the costs mentioned are incorrect. Rest all good.
