The author, Dr. Manjit Bal, is a vivacious, vibrant and a versatile genius who has established his credentials as an author, medical teacher, flute player and singer. A pathologist, Dr. Bal is a retired Head of Department from Government Medical College / Rajindra Hospital Patiala. Professionally, he examines the microstructures of tissues under a microscope to diagnose diseases. His latest venture, Lovingly Yours Ã¢ÂÂ PenPals, the compilation of correspondence with his Polish pen friend when they were in their early twenties is a veritable record of the heartbeats of two pen friends extending over a quarter of a century. Dr. BalÃ¢ÂÂs hobby of writing letters goes back to his school days when, as a young boy, he was much in demand in his native village (Bal Kalan) in Punjab, to read and write a reply to letters on behalf of illiterate mothers, sent by their army men (fauji) sons or other relatives.
