Summary of the Book

John Gray's book explains that the problems with inter-gender relationships is a result of misunderstood psychological differences. Men and women are geared to react differently to the same situation, almost as if they were from separate planets. Men and women see acts of favours differently, and a difference of this sort usually leads to catastrophic arguments over who owes who more or bigger favours. In examining how each reacts to stress, Gray explains that Men tend to recede into a seclusion when stressed, whereas women don't understand the need for seclusion. Women prefer sharing, while men feel they'd rather spend time bowling or drinking with friends. A book which has sold several million copies so far, it has been optioned for a movie by Summit Entertainment starring Reese Witherspoon.

John Gray is an American relationships counsellor, writer and lecturer. He is known for his lectures on relationship psychology and for his numerous books on the topic. His works include: Mars and Venus on a Date, What You Feel You Can Heal, Children Are from Heaven, Mars and Venus: 365 Ways to Keep Passion Alive and Mars and Venus in the Workplace among others.

John Gray's foray into relationship psychology began with a nine year association with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. A graduate of the University of St. Thomas and the University of Texas, Gray was awarded an honorary doctorate from Governors State University in Illinois in 2002.
