    Summary of the Book

The autobiography starts off with giving readers an insight into the great entertainer’s life before he became famous. He was born into a very poor family and was raised by his mother after his father died due to excessive drinking. He started his career by working for Keystone Comedy Film Company. He later gained success in comedy, and soon brought about the formation of United Artists. He was also involved in a lot of controversy; including his controversial marriage with his wife who was many years his junior. He fathered many children with his young wife. The Life of a Genius, the flamboyant Hollywood celebrity's lifestyle and his dinners with famous people

The title of this review pretty much sums up the wonderful Autobiography of Chaplin. Before reading book, I initially thought that his life was a cakewalk due to his comic onscreen nature of the flatfooted stick wielding "Tramp". But once I started reading the book, I understood that he gave new meaning to the rags to riches story. Reading about his poverty ridden childhood, his life in a workhouse, his mother who went insane, his alcoholic divorced father, its a mystery how he inherited the ...

    Must read

For anyone who's only introduction to Charlie Chaplin is through the Kiwi boot polish ads (or a few comedy shorts on DD), like myself, this honest and candid autobiography is like the doorway to Narnia. Looking at the on-screen buffoonery, one often forgets the skill, talent, art and intelligence that must go into making such epics. Starting with his humble beginnings in UK, this book traces both the growth of Chaplin as a star and almost the entire US film industry from the silent era throug...

A must read for Chaplin fans !

When you think of the good old 'Silent Film Era', the first name that comes to your mind is Sir Charles Chaplin. The book is all about an exciting journey of a great artist which takes you to the end of 19th century and his struggling period right from his stage comedy and vaudeville days to Fred Karno's company and then moving to Keystone studios, Essanay, First National and United Artists. It's nice to see how the ideas of making films came to his mind and how he rose to fame.

    Though I wis...

    Simple yet captivating biography

It was an amazing piece. One goes through the life of the great person written in simple style; but not at all simple, though. I had to use a pencil to mark the words that was unknown to me and beleive me there was a whole lot of new words which I learnt.
What impresses me most is that this man is a self-grown man; with no recorded formal education. And still then he manages to impress the crowd with an almost educative wit. The boldness in his behaviour seems to have come with practice but n...

    Worth every penny

Great book .One must read it but there are lots of difficult words so that may give u a trouble if u r nt that good with English vocabulary. I being a post graduate in English literature have also come across words that I heard for the 1st time bt again that is subjective. Acquiring vocab is subjective but I can assure u that u wl thoroughly enjoy reading it. Gripping narrative quality wl gv u mch impetus to read. 1 disadvantage :-Book cover could b of better quality paper.

    Decent product

Not durable in the long run as gets folded easily to open the binding and also letters are very small and sometimes difficult to read but at the price at which it is available it is perfectly reasonable.
