Summary Of The Book
Neglected Poems is a selection of 60 handpicked poems, which will take readers through the intricately woven fibers of society. Gulzar’s present collection was chosen after the resounding success of Selected Poems.
In Neglected Poems, the author explores various themes and topics of interest such as nature, human psychology, relationships, and even city life. These poems reflect Gulzar’s creativity and imagination, not to mention the talent behind his poetic pen. The author’s compelling writing style makes readers introspect.
Neglected Poems provides a peek into Gulzar’s mental abilities, filled with emotions and feelings, taking form in words and verse. His poems effortlessly glide from one subject to the next, tackling the sweetness and sourness of relationships, philosophical ponderings, and even separation. Some poems are lengthy, while the others are crisp and short, but by no means lacking imagery or poetic artistry. With the turning of every page, readers are transported into a new emotional dimension, or location.
This collection of 60 poems has been translated from Urdu into English, by Pavan K. Varma. During the translation, Varma has maintained the integrity of Gulzar’s trademark verses. The translation does not remove the original beauty of the Urdu verses.
