Fabulous!

Very well written and unbiased biography of India's first Prime Minister. Clearly shows the good, the bad and ugly side of Pundit Nehru's legacy and establishes how despite his evident failures, he was an instrumental force in India's freedom struggle and secular foundation. The book also outlines Nehru close friendship with other prominent leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel and how both of them acted as his mentor at some point or the other.

Worth every penny

This book, Nehru: The Invention of India, was written in 2003 well before Shashi Tharoor joined INC in 2009. This is an Unbiased outlook on our first prime minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. Great Addition to my Collection, got it for 299 only.

sharp and witty

Shashi Tharoor leaves one in awe of his ready wit and insight..brilliantly written, the book deals with Nehrus life and legacy also illuminates the defining impact that india had both in its politics and society. His modernity, scientific secularism , his unshakable faith in democracy , his policy of non alignment were fundamental pillar of Nehrus idea of India and is dealt in detail..its an intimate portrait of Nehru.

Delightfully Insightfull

If you are also the one who has stumbled upon this book, trying to find the relevance of nehru legacy, which is subject to choking now a days, then you are on the right track. This book is not from an admirer of the subject but not from a cynic either. Shashi Tharoor unfurls the Nehru and his legacy without being partial to the nature of biography, which demand impartiality and which is sadly gradually lessening in contemporary biographies.
I would recommend to read some of the Nehur's origi...

Terrific

Another fantastic book from the stable of Mr. Tharoor and I believe one of the easiest to read. The author does goes to a great extent to highlight Nehru as a human being more than a politician and I guess that is where the book holds a special importance to its readers. For all of Nehru's faults, he always had the greater good of the country in his mind and for which his legacy will never diminish. The last part especially holds true considering the current climate of disrespect towards past...

Excellent Book

Excellent Book about the paradox-ridden Jawaharlal Nehru—a moody, idealist intellectual who felt an almost mystical empathy with the toiling peasant masses; an aristocrat, accustomed to privilege, who had passionate socialist convictions
