I chose this against D3300 and D5200 (more expensive, with similar features). It has been 4 months now and I have no regrets.

The picture quality is extremely good and the battery life is great too. The kit lens of 18-55mm is suited for most situations - however an additional prime lens/zoom lens doesn't hurt. Though I don't use often, the effects mode can come quite handy when you are in real need.

Overall, at this price, this camera is a steal if you are a beginner or intermediate SLR ...

Two weeks with D5100.

Pros-
1. Excellent image quality, just on par with D5200 & D5300. Believe me i tried all three camera with 35mm lens and the results were almost equal.
2. Light weight & compact- Carrying dslr is pain in the ____. So D5100 is both compact & light weight as compare to D7000 and D7100. This is super important IMHO, you'll definitely going to enjoy this advantage.
3. ISO settings are not limited unlike canon's 550D(Dumb).
4. Far better build & picture quality than canon....

I bought this product recently .although Nikon has stopped making this product still i opted Nikon D5100 because of its excellent reviews. My friends are already using it and i was stunned by the fabulous results at such an economic price..

Really enjoying using the cam, heads up you ll need to click around 50-60 pics to understand the features it has to offer, I m still learning, its superb to hold,
though the stock lens of 18-55 limits the zoom, i will soon upgrade to my next lens in 6-7 months once i m done having fun with this :)
Looking for your first DSLR, you cant go wrong with this..there is so much to learn every day you use it.. superb colors and awesome sharpness and clarity of pictures :)

I took this master piece almost a month ago. Believe me its one of the awesomest devices till date, I had no issue till date. Photography is not just clicking a button, its an art and art comes with passion. I feel the lens given 18-55 mm is great for beginners I used this to click pictures which can be shot only with a micro lens or a fish lens. It feels amazing to hold such an awesome gadget in hands.

This camera has everything for the starters in the photography. It offers perfect product to shoot excellent pictures. My options were either Cannon 550D or Nikon D5100. On doing some internet research's and reading blogs for more than three weeks, this product has the upper hand compared to cannon on certain aspects. Worth for every rupee that you spend. Nikon D5100 SLR - I was very confused betwn D3200 & D5100, but
1. D5100 has comfortable grip and easy access to direct on-board shortcut buttons.
