Description
The 5230 is a stripped down version and cheaper cousin of the extremely popular 5800 Xpress Music. It is also one of the few S60 handset that was able to gain a respectable reach amongst the budget conscious base. The handset features a 3.2 inch widescreen with an impressive 16 M colours at 360 x 640 pixels. It sports responsive resistive touch & tactile feedback screen & a really good on-screen QWERTY keyboard.

The Nokia 5230 is the perfect choice for anyone looking for an affordable smartphone and doesn't mind the lack of Wi-Fi functionality. The handset features 3G capabilities and a really handy a-GPS functionality, which when paired with Ovi maps, allows for turn-by-turn voice navigation. The phone also packs a range of useful apps like Google map GPS,Skype, Yassu video podcast, Flash lite and Absolute online radio.

The handset is powered by a BL-5J 1320 mAh Li-Ion battery, capable of 7 hours of talk time and up to 438 hrs of standby. Recent firmware updates on the Nokia 5230 has further improved the music capabilities besides adding a kinetic scrolling for the main menu UI and Ovi Sync application icon to the desktop. The 5230 comes with dedicated keys for most of the primary features, Nokia has also included an easy access for music control on the home screen with play/pause,forward,back and other voice commands.

The Nokia 5230 comes equipped with a rather basic 2 MP camera which supports JPEG image format with a CMOS sensor and is capable of 3X digital zoo . Other camera features include landscape orientation, auto exposure, full screen viewfinder, exposure compensation& white balance modes. It can record video in MP4 and 3GP format and audio in WAV, AAC/MP4 formats. Another really neat feature on the Nokia 5230 is the is Speaker-independent name dialing (SIND) . The handset has a range of local connectivity and synchronization option including, 3G, Bluetooth, MTP, PC Sync with Nokia Ovi Suite & direct printing via compatible printers.

Average phone

I am using this phone for the past 1 year. These are my finding about this phone.

Pros:
1. Good music quality. Music processor is good enough, but you need a good earphone to hear that. (I use sennheiser).
2. Battery back up will stay upto 3 days in a normal usage(Including calls+music+gprs).

Cons:
1. Touch sensor is resistive. and it sticks like anything.
2. Cant install too much of softwares and games since it has very low ram and cache.

Nokia 5230 "connection error"

My sincere advice please never choose this model either incoming calls or outgoing calls will get disconnected abruptly and a message pops up "connection error" no signal bar. either you have to wait a long time to get the signal back or switch off and switch on the mobile.
