Summary Of The Book
The Other Side Of Silence chronicles the series of events that took place during the Partition of India in 1947. This was a time of great strife in the country. Violence was rampant everywhere, and this caused severe unrest throughout the nation. It has been stated that about twelve million people were displaced during this period in history.
The atrocities committed against women during that time are also shocking. Studies have revealed that about seventy five thousand women were seized and raped during the partition. The author goes on to say that even though the public has managed to conceal the unrest and violence that took place at that time, all of it is still felt by the people as individuals. It has never been eliminated from their thoughts.
The author has conducted several research studies on the partition, and has used them in The Other Side Of Silence. Through this book, readers can get an accurate picture of the state of things at that time. People who were living in the nation back then also provide the readers with their testimonials in this book. Parliamentary documents have also been included here, along with memoirs and excerpts from diaries.
