Summary Of The Book

Pink Or Black is a simple and witty tale of Tiana, a teenaged girl studying in a boarding school. She loves her friends and enjoys everything they do until one day she decides to “find herself”. Unlike her classmates whose lives revolve around their boyfriends, clothes and looking good, Tiana is more interested in this aspect of her life.

She devises her own “finding it” theory whereby she does all that she wants to without falling into the trap of peer pressure. She starts her search by questioning her choice of colours and favourite food but is soon on a journey that would bring her face-to-face with one of the most terrifying incidents of her adolescent life. The rest of the story follows this theme and gives the readers a glimpse into her life and that of her friends.

Pink Or Black is every teenager’s story. It is packed with humorous incidents, stories of crushes, academic pressures, friendship and facing peer pressure that is typical of a teenager’s life. In the story, the author skillfully portrays Tiana making her choices and more importantly standing up for them.

The story is well written in a simple and natural style that makes it a captivating read for young adults. It has a subtle message hidden in it that talks about the importance of making one’s choices rather than neglecting one’s own likes and dislikes in order to be a part of a group or risk being termed unpopular. The author explores the angst and pleasure that characterize the lives of teenagers across the world.
