I bought this book looking at the great reviews people have written for it for UPSC exam. However it was a big disappointment! -

a. The book does not cover facts and concepts clearly. Only passing reference.

b. The book is of a higher level than required for GS Mains.

c. The analysis in the book which people are drooling over is so intellectual that it is wholly unnecessary for atleast GS!

A person who does not have a background in history will struggle with this book. You dont need to...

I bought this book about 3 months ago from Flipkart. My main purpose for purchasing this book was to help with my UPSC - civil service preparation. It is 100 % true that everyone is not gifted with so much brilliance and excellence as is the case of Sekhar Bandyopadhyay. The Author has tried to make everything crystal clear with lot of hardwork and has been successful in doing so...WOW WOW !!!! SUPERB BOOK!! Please guys if you are not appearing for any competitive exam even then go for this book...Some Books are there which enhances the grace of your bookshelf...This book definately deserves the top position on the stack!!!!

This and its translations, remains one of the most useful books for any serious student of modern history. While remaining accessible to the average reader, including school children, it covers the basic views of the important schools of historiography. I personally used this for a crash course before any competitive examination, apart from using it as the basic book for any topic taught in BA (for MA a little more detail is needed, but then this wasn't written for that level)

Scholarly and extensively well researched! I loved the author's elaboration and reasoning to place things in perspective. Topics are logically ordered - pleasing to a reader's mind! I'm the 12th person to rate it 5. Brilliant history both of and in the book!!

It's a beautifully written book. Not haphazardly written and there is a flow to the telling of the incidents, which keeps the reader arrested..

This is one of the best book available for the History portion of the GS syllabus. There are several other books available but this is the best one.

PLASSEY TO PARTITION BY SEKHAR BANDYOPADHYAY IS A CLASSIC BOOK ON MODERN INDIAN HISTORY AND SPECIFICALLY INDIAN FREEDOM MOVEMENT.

Chapter 1 deals with transition from medieval to modern India. From chapter 2 onwards book deals with different aspect of British rule, Social,Economic and Political.

Its a analytical book, and does not merely tells a story of India.

you can read this unbiased well researched book. don't study if you want essays and don't want to know the facts that lead to these.

The delivery service of Flipkar was very good in this case. I ordered the book on Thursday evening and the book got delivered on Saturday. The book is very usefull. It gives very good insight about many un known things. An ideal book for UPSC applicants.
