The new code makes a number of changes to the existing law, including the expansion of the powers of the police, such as the ability to detain suspects for longer periods of time; the strengthening of the role of the courts, such as the ability to order electronic surveillance of suspects; the introduction of new safeguards for the rights of the accused, such as the right to a lawyer at the time of arrest. So, it makes a number of changes to the way that criminal investigations and trials are conducted, including extending the period of police custody, allowing the use of handcuffs and other restraints, and expanding the scope of property seizure. The maximum period of police custody has been increased from 10 days to 15 days. The police are now allowed to use handcuffs in certain cases.
