PERT stands for Program Evaluation And Review Technique, and is a statistical tool used in project management. In design, it is built to understand and signify tasks involved in a specific project given to the user. It found fame after being extensively used by the US Navy in the 1950s.

Critical Path Method or CPM, is another tool often used in combination with PERT as an algorithm for scheduling project activities. CPM was developed by Morgan R. Walker and James E. Kelley in the late 1950s. It is now commonly used in a lot of fields, especially those involving engineering and construction requirements.
