  • Description
Broccoli is a green vegetable that vaguely resembles a miniature tree. It belongs to the plant species known as Brassica oleracea. It’s closely related to cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kale and cauliflower — all edible plants collectively referred to as cruciferous vegetables. It's no coincidence that more than 300 research studies on broccoli have converged in one unique area of health science—the development of cancer—and its relationship to three metabolic problems in the body. Those three problems are (1) chronic inflammation (2) oxidative stress, and (3) inadequate detoxification. While these types of problems have yet to become part of the public health spotlight, they are essential to understanding broccoli's unique health benefits. There are common varieties of broccoli are Broccolini, Chinese broccoli, Romanesco broccoli, Blue Wind, Purple Sprouting, destiny broccoli, Calabrese broccoli etc. There are many benefits for broccoli, you may also gardening any type of broccoli by getting organic broccoli seed. Over the past 10 years, research has made it clear that our risk of cancer in several different organ systems is related to the combination of these three problems. In health science research, there is a growing body of evidence relating cancer risk to a series of environmental, dietary, and body system factors. Understanding this set of factors can be very helpful in making sense of broccoli and its health benefits.

    Soil Nutrient Requirements
    • For vigorous and proper growth, broccoli requires moist soil. Well drained soil which contains good fertilizer content is ideal for broccoli farming. pH having 5.0-6.5 is optimum for broccoli cultivation. Broccoli requires a site with exposure to full sun (6 to 8 hours per day). Lack of sunlight may produce thin, leggy plants and subpar heads. Plant in a bed of moist, fertile soil that drains well.
    Sowing Method
    • Use 250gm of seeds for sowing in one acre land. Before sowing seeds are treated with hot water (58oC) for 30 minutes to protect seeds from soil borne diseases.

    Care Instructions
    • Plants thrive outdoors in 65°F to 70°F (18° to 21°C) conditions. Fertilize broccoli three weeks after transplanting seedlings into the garden. Use a low-nitrogen fertilizer. Thin when plants reach 2 to 3 inches tall. Provide consistent soil moisture with regular watering, especially in drought conditions. Water at least 1 to 1 ½ inches per week. Do not get developing broccoli heads wet when watering, as it can encourage rot. Roots are very shallow, so try not to disturb the plants. Suffocate weeds with mulch. Mulch will also help to keep soil temperatures down. To promote the growth of a second head after the first has been harvested, maintain an active feeding and watering schedule. Use row covers to minimize pests. If bottom, then top, leaves turn yellow, add blood meal.
