Summary Of The Book

The author grew up in an orthodox Jewish family, a family that had survived the Holocaust. He describes his early experiences with death, a mysterious vision of his grandfather, whose death had been kept a secret from him, and at the age of eight, being alone with his grandmother as she took her last breath.

These experiences along with a troubled childhood with an abusive father, had left him with a yearning to find the true meaning of life at a young age. The author states that even while in college, he was more interested in spiritual enlightenment than his exams.

Left to find his own way in his philosophical quest, he was feeling lost, when a friend introduced him to Transcendental Meditation. He then took up meditation and yoga practices and also spent some time at the Maharishi Mahesh University.

But his spiritual quest came to a fulfilment only when he met Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, through another friend. This friend persuaded him to attend the Art of Living course. Ravi Shankar’s Kriya Yoga instilled a new life force in him. The spiritual master’s positive teachings and his humanitarian work appealed to the author as a final destination in his quest.

Under Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s guidance, he learnt how to handle his emotions, desires, and anxieties. The author is now the President of the US Art of Living Foundation.
