Summary Of The Book

The Winchester family had been like any other normal family, with John and his wife Mary living happily with their two young boys, Dean and Sam. Their normal life together changed forever in a single night.

On November 2, 1983, Mary Winchester dies a mysteriously horrific death and the Winchester home was nearly burned to the ground. This journal follows what happened after this incident. Told in John’s first person narrative, the book charts John’s desperation and grief at his wife’s death and also his strong will to find out the real reason behind the night’s incidents.

Dean and Sam have always had their father’s journal to guide them in all their demon hunting. The journal is immensely valuable to their search since John had gone to great lengths, identifying paranormal evils and devising methods to kill them. Everything from shape shifters to Samuel Colt finds mention in its pages. John also lovingly keeps accounts of his sons’ achievements, be it Dean’s first hunt or Sam’s peewee soccer team.

The narrative combines elements from folklore, legend, superstitions, all of which work towards making the theme of hunting evil more believable.

About The Authors

Alex Irvine is a writer, reporter, and lecturer from Ypsilanti in Michigan. Apart from Supernatural, Alex Irvine has written novels such as A Scattering Of Jades, Unintended Consequences, The Narrows, One King, One Soldier, and Buyout. Irvine has also been part of Alternate Reality Games’, The Beast and I Love Bees. He is the writer of the Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance.

Most of Alex’s works belong to the fantasy and science fiction genre. Irvine has a master’s in English from the University of Maine and a Ph.D from the University of Denver. He has worked as a reporter for Portland Phoenix and as an assistant professor of English in the University of Maine.

Dan Panosian has worked for various issues of Captain America, Spawn, The Flash, Spider-man, and others as an novel illustrator.
He works on illustrations, logo, and brochure designing and has also done commercial designing.
