    • For most of us the Gita evokes an image of Krishna addressing Arjuna who is dutifully kneeling before him with folded hands, with a chariot and the battlefield as a backdrop. We have seen versions of this image on wall calendars, diaries, amateur paintings, and on walls of religious spaces. Year after year, our exposure to the Gita remains limited to these fleeting visual engagements as they become part of our muscle memory as we go about our chores. This book, as the title suggests, decodes life lessons from each section of the Gita, looking at this ancient text through a twenty-first century prism. Far from being a mere compilation of selected didactic verses, this narrative skillfully strings together 251 verses of the Gita. It deciphers each of them, and presents the takeaways as tools to face situations of modern-day distress, dilemma and inner conflict. Written from the perspective of a non-ritualistic individual, the book connects the teachings of the Gita with current concepts of life skills. It also reiterates the relevance of a text written thousands of years ago, and showcases its contemporary value by drawing parallels with our day-to-day existence today.

title directly indicates to the contents

This book is a good one to read Gita in its original context without getting distracted from opinions and other notes with each stanza. Further the way of reference/notes is also simple and useful without distracting the flow of reading. I just hope that if it would have word by word meaning also. But even without that, I liked the book as it is.

    Pure translation

For those who wish the pure translation without any commentary. Provides reader to think about the topic themselves. A must for the academics/philosophers. Reading feels the best when you are well learnt Sanskrit too.

connects you to the meaning of gita

Very well written.. maintaining the poetic just of gita and not just the translation of the shlokas.. One can easily relate to it and implement its content and find solutions to all possible problems.. the book manages to leave a mark on your mind and will definitely play a role in establishing peace in your head and heart..
the writing is crisp and the editing has been done appropriately.. maintaining the essence of gita..
Penguin Books lives up to its expectation of printing quality content..

    Quite satisfied.

The author is a member of NITI aayog, so when I decided to buy a translation of Bhagavad Gita, it had to be his. I'm glad I chose this product as this is the best translation of Gita that you can find in market. The author 'proves' this in his introduction chapter in which he compares his translation of 'contested' shlokas with those provided in the famous works (including Prabhupada's) to show how they are not literal and have been interpretted to 'fit'. The author makes it clear in introduc...

    Finally got what I wanted

Have started reading the introduction .
Gita has been thoroughly Researched by the writer.
Introduction is full with comparisons with other books. There does not seem to be a bias from any organisation or time or person or God in this book.

Perfect for those who are looking for answers instead of rules in life!

Bhagvad Gita (English) Translated by Bibek Debroy

The translation is lucid and does not take over the real text. Explanation helps go deeper. Bibek Debroy's Gita is a great for friends and family.
