About John Woodroffe
John Woodroffe is also known by his pseudonym, Arthur Avalon. He was a British Orientalist whose work has helped unleash a deep and wide interest in Hindu philosophy and Yogic Practices in the West. He has also studied Sanskrit and Hindu philosophy alongside his judicial studies. Woodroffe was also interested in Hindu Tantra. He has translated twenty original Sanskrit texts, and has published and lectured on Indian philosophy. He has also published texts on the different aspects of Shaktism. Some of his writings include: Shakti and Shakta, Principals of Tantra (2 volumes), Kamakalavilasa, Hymns to the Goddess and The World as Power.
