Kafka’s The Metamorphosis is the tale of a
man, Gregor Samsa, who, one morning,
woke up to fi nd that he had changed into
a giant insect. The change was irreversible.
Gregor was the one who earned money
for the family. With the exception of his
sister, the family seemed to treat him not
as a member but as a source of income.
When Gregor was no longer able to work
after his metamorphosis, he was treated
with unkindness.
