Detailed and captivating!

"The Seeds of War", the second book of the MBA Mahabharata series is an equally strong continuation of "The Forest of Stories". Though the book does not explicitly link itself to the previous volume, knowledge of it would definitely increase the entertainment factor of "The Seeds of War".

The author's knowledge of the topic, extensive research and imaginative plots add much more to the already interesting Mahabharata. This book focuses on the earliest passions and promises of the Kuru lineag...

A delightful retelling of a well loved story

Like most Indian children, I grew up on the stories of the Mahabharata and was delighted to revisit them in Ashok Banker's Seeds of War.

I loved the magical world he has recreated in simple language that captures the feel of a bygone past. Devayani and Yayati are some of the characters we meet in the second of a series which explain the root of the problem that results in the actual battle at Kurukshetra.

This is a simple narration with no commentaries or explanations yet uncovers some bas...

Riveting rendition of the Mahabharatha

The Seeds of War is the second part of Ashok Banker's Mahabharata series, or as he calls it, his MBA series. Banker's books on the epics are usually a generous mix of myth and fantasy, but in this series, he chooses to simply re-tell the epic, as told by Vyasa, though in his own way. Banker's inimitable style is very much in evidence here, in his language, his descriptions, as well his take on relationships. It is his characters which makes the book stand apart, above other translations of th...

Thank you AK!!!

I heard of Ashok Banker, read about him in newspapers BUT never thought I would be hooked to his writing.

I also thank God that he did not get this stupid idea to call all the high and might of India to endorse his book with some snazzy blurbs!

The Language, the flow, the information, the tightness of the narration, the originality in words...I can go on endlessly! I am happy!

Keeps you hooked

An absolutely fantastic book by Ashok Banker. Keeps you hooked till the last page.

Everyone knows about the Pandavas and the Kauravas but not many know about the illustrious Puru lineage. The book is a wonderful insight into that.

The Mahabharata is all about people and Ashok Banker has managed to narrate the deepest of emotions [e.g. Bhishma and Amba's confrontation in the night after he abducts her] with the most simplest of words. His narrative makes you empathize with the characters.

Trip to a Magical world

Exquisitely beautiful prose, nearly poetic in the feel, transports the reader to a magical world. It is no childish fiction and is not an unbelievable kind of story. It is a story which is very human, but it is an ethereal world. The story spans the time which usually escapes our attention when we think of Mahabharata. The story pre-dates the Great War, the life and times of the people who eventually will give rise to what we today call our nation, India. Highly recommended, enjoyable read.

Banker successfully transports you in the era of Mahabharata and as you read on, the scenes and characters comes live in your mind. The narration is crisp and witty, that is banker's style. It keeps you glued to the very end. Looking forward to the rest of the series..
