Almost An Epiphany

This is more than a book. It's a saga of how everything in the nature came into perspective, how animals behave the way they do and a well-documented journey into the heated days of biological science as we know it today.
I can virtually guarantee that every individual that goes through this masterpiece will be enthralled by how immaculately nature plays it's game. The conflicts between a mother and her son, between two Elephant Seals, the cost-benefit ratio at work between the honeybees, MH...

Why you should read this book

No matter what your world view is, no matter if you are a theist or an atheist or a creationist or an evolutionist or whatever, you must read this book. The latest 30th anniversary publication one, I mean, with new insights added by Dawkins. I had read the earlier publication long ago, and was quite impressed then, but the latest edition is marvellous. If for nothing else, you should read it as a story book, a pulsating novel, for Dawkins' style is just that. You may or may not agree with all...

Classic, brilliant and exciting!

More than a thirty-five years after its first publication, "The Selfish Gene" remains a classic. The book is explicitly directed at the layman, and no prior knowledge of biology is assumed.

Dawkins presents the gene-centered view of evolution and looks at various types of animal behavior to convey some general conclusions to help in understanding evolution and natural selection. Much of his effort is devoted to explaining behavior in terms of the 'selfish gene' - especially social behavior t...

Excellent work not suitable for Amateurs

The Selfish gene is one of the finest work written on the this particular subject of Ethology and evolutionary biology. The title maybe highly misleading but the content is so original and never fails to amaze readers even after two decades after its publication.

The language is simple and easy to understand, but the content will be a bit tough for those who never took science in their high school or college. After few chapters it gets complex and reader would find it hard to move any furthe...

Must Read to Open Your Mind

This is excellent book for people interested in the natural world. The explanations are both aimed at a well read but non-specialist audience and for beginners in biology. All concepts are explained in a simple way, so no need to rack your brains on some overly complicated paragraph. Dawkins has a gift for conveying his views clearly.

Even though it is not a full fledged description of evolution per se, it is the broad running theme, and I have a much better understanding of it than earlier...

Repetitive despite excellent subject and content

Well after many sincere efforts to read it.... still coudlnt finish it.

The language is kind of difficult to understand and then it gets quite repetitive too.... u feel like.... dude...I got your point....no need for more proofs and elaboration..now move to next point!

I realized that despite of interesting subject and writers knowledge and master of subject... it makes me sleepy after 10-12 pages. mind you I am the type who can read a book of 800 pages in one go if find it interesting enou...
