About I. N. Herstein

Israel Nathan Herstein had researched and written extensively on ring theory in algebra.

He is best known for Topics in Algebra which deals with abstract algebra. He had also written on the Carus Mathematical Monographs in Noncommutative Ring. Matters Mathematical, Some Aspects of Ring Theory, and Abstract Algebra are some of his other works.

He was a Polish mathematician whose published works have helped undergraduate students with linear algebra, mathematical economics and noncommutative ring theory. He was born on 28th March, 1923. Coming from an impoverished background, he had worked his way through school and college. He had completed his B.S degree from the University of Manitoba. He had acquired his M.A. from University of Toronto. He had been associated as a professor of Mathematics in the University of Pennsylvania, Ohio State University, and the University of Kansas.
