Summary of the Book

Peter Parker is a perfect geek. He’s a brilliant student, loves reading about technology, has few friends, and he is a complete idiot around the girl he likes. One day, during a school trip, he is bitten by a radioactive spider and he faints, only to awaken the next day to his usual life. However, he has no idea that he now has all the reflexes and powers of a spider. When a bully tries to hit him, he is able to maneuver out of harm’s way and break the guy’s arm with ease. He is chastised by his Uncle Ben for this act of violence, and he is reminded that with great power must come great responsibility. However, Peter wants none of this, so he decides to use his powers to make money. He takes part in a wrestling challenge match and wins with ease, toppling his giant opponent with flair, while managing to make wisecracks at the same time. He is soon dubbed Spider-Man for his antics, and the manager of the wrestling outfit gives him a suitable costume. However, when Peter lets a criminal escape without even trying to use his powers to stop him, he is about to learn the meaning of Uncle Ben’s lesson. He returns home to discover that his beloved Uncle has been murdered, and that the murderer is the same man he let go. With great power, he learns, there must come great responsibility. And thus is born the Ultimate Spider-Man!
