Fakin’ a Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pieces back together and turning them into a version that is even more beautiful than before. The way I see it - unbecoming and becoming are both art pieces. Unbecoming is stripping away the expectations of the society, removing your heart of the self-hatred, letting yourself heal, giving yourself space and love. Becoming is putting it to life - being what makes you you and feeling ready to face anything. None of these have timelines and expectations - you choose whenever and however you want to do it. Being in a world that wants to mold you into whatever they like every second of your life, to rid away all of these is overwhelming. But all of it is worth it. So, the more I looked at how the pieces broke and build again, I understood: “Your unbecoming is your best becoming.” If you’d never die, you’ll never be able to become a better version of yourself. This book is not about ‘becoming’ a better version but instead about ‘unbecoming’ a past self. Some people collect stamps, and I collected things, pages, whisper-oaths and hugs. This book is for everyone like that; people who collect more souvenirs of people than places; the hopeless romantics who always loved a little more than they should; the broken wholes who no longer look back anymore; the seekers who see beauty in things and love in people; the divers who loved to dive in the depth of everything.

Nishi Patel is a 17 year old budding writer, founder of the "Find Yourself" project and writer of the "Human Souvenirs" blog(Links on her website attached to her Instagram account: @_npatel_657). Born and raised in India for sixteen years and currenty residing in the United States, she has always had a knack for writing and it wasn't until the end of middle school when she really became all about it. When she started writing, the only thing she knew were a few simple words and a heart full of heavy feelings. It was never a click; in fact, that nishi would've never thought she would publish one day. From scribbling herthoughts in a diary to all of this; she would have never imagined everything she has seen - readers emailing how they loved her book to readers annotating herbook. Allof it is a dream. She like to put it in a simple sentence, "i have a fetish of turning blood to ink."
The 11-year-old nishi didn't know what to be; what version of her to be - the same dilemma the 17-year-old nishi also goes through. So when she didn't know what to be, she became a bunch of people all in one. When she couldn't cry, she bled on paper. and that summarizes how she became a writer.
