  • Description

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is a contemporary novel by Haruki Murakami.

    Summary of the Book

In a Tokyo suburb, Toru Okada searches for his wife’s lost cat. However, the hunt turns nightmarish as he begins searching for his wife in the underworld below the calm surface of Tokyo. Soon, both of his searches lead him towards unlikely allies: a psychic prostitute, an evil politician who is praised by the media, a sixteen year old girl who is oddly morbid yet cheerfully so and an old war veteran who is scarred by his experiences in the Manchuria campaign. This collection brings together: The Thieving Magpie, Bird as Prophet and The Birdcatcher.

    Author Info
    • In 1978, Haruki Murakami was twenty-nine and running a jazz bar in downtown Tokyo. One April day, the impulse to write a novel came to him suddenly while watching a baseball game. That first novel, Hear the Wind Sing, won a new writers' award and was published the following year. More followed, including A Wild Sheep Chase and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, but it was Norwegian Wood, published in 1987, that turned Murakami from a writer into a phenomenon. In works such as The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, 1Q84, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running and Men Without Women, Murakami's distinctive blend of the mysterious and the everyday, of melancholy and humour, continues to enchant readers, ensuring his place as one of the world's most acclaimed and well-loved writers.

    Haunting

i love the way marukami weaves a tale. he writes with a sense of detachment from reality but the story is still real and it is still happening in the real world.... that's the feeling you get when you read his books. The wind up chronicles was a light yet engaging read and i gave up guessing what was going to happen after a time. There are certain lessons to be learnt from this wonderful book

    Haunting!

Some books leave you with answers, some books leave you with questions. haruki Murakami's The wind up bird chronicles leave you with questions. There are hidden answers. You can interpret your own hypothesis but the amazing journey of Mr. Okada is far from your or mine interpretations. Its a master piece and one of the best books on life.

    Delightful

The quality of packaging was not very good. The book got a curve in it's cover. Flipkart should look into these things!

    Good choice

The physical condition is a bit unsatisfying. I've been ordering a few books these days, so it's my humble request to pack the books with some extra care, maybe with some hard material. Just the plastic wrapper isn't enough to protect it. Readers like to receive the books in well shapes.

Murakami never ceases to amaze me!

I have been a huge fan of Murakami since I read Norwegian Wood, Sputnik Sweetheart, 1Q84. Murakami does what he does best. This book will leave you with a million questions. Murakami writes is such a way that the reader is open to his own interpretation. Kind of like Lynch's movies. This book is surrealism at its best.
