  • Description

The story of Draupadi, one of the most fascinating characters in the Mahabharata.

Strange as it may appear, Draupadi, the most accomplished heroine of the Mahabharata, happens to be the most suffering, sacrificing, and yet the most misunderstood character from the epic. Though counted among the five supremely virtuous women, honoured as pancha sati in mythology, the name Draupadi still bears stigma and is often contemptuously uttered by people in society as the woman who brought about the greatest war of all times.

Pratibha Ray makes a determined effort for a balanced portrayal of the epic character and brings to the surface the broader and deeper aspects of Draupadis mind that lay submerged in the majestic sweep of the grand Mahabharata.

    Yajnaseni :The story of Draupadi

The story of one of the greatest heroine of the times. What makes her great is not the fact that she was born a princess but the way she handled her life with raw energy. Her life was no bed of roses yet the way she handles herself; with grace ,poise and equanimity speaks volumes about her inner strength. That steel is present in every woman yet we fail to understand it. She bowed down to the conditions laid on her by the society, her father, her husbands...and myriad others but she still remain...

    nice

presenting the original Alpha Woman. Nice to read the subtle undertones of passion and resentment between her and Arjun. Towards the end, wish she had kept up the revenge momentum, instead of suddenly veering towards forgiveness. Draupadi deserved a happier and content ending than Vyas gives her.

    From Her Viewpoint

Mahabharata told from Draupadi's or as she refers to herself..Yajnaseni's viewpoint. Worth a read.

Although Pratibha Ray's Draupadi is aware, perhaps a little too aware, of her destiny as someone who is born to help re-establish Dharma. Although what passed for Dharma and a woman's Dharma at that time is a little unsettling.

Watch Draupadi question Kunti's motivations in getting her to marry five brothers .."In case the mother was shamed before her daughter-in-law and looked small (for ha...

    Yajnaseni @ Draupadi

I would call it a classic by Ms. Ray due to the clear narration from Draupadi's POV; just the incidents recorded & their impact on Draupadi's psyche - judgement left to readers! The book brings-out the 'grey' part of the epic Mahabharatha - the beauty of that epic!

    Not Exactly Unputdownable

I bought this book after reading all the wonderful reviews. Now I won't say that I was disappointed, but neither did it amaze me. I do know many facts that I didn't knew before reading it.

Now to why I didn't like it. As far as I have read Krishnaa (Draupadi) is a princess so high on morals and values, that at times it gets very annoying. All she can think about all the time is when she will "unite" with Arjun while she also "fulfills her duties" towards her other husbands. More than half t...
