Audio section High quality parts & design: the yamaha rx-v485 av receiver features fully discrete power amplifiers to minimize distortion and adopts independent pure power supplies for the analog and digital circuitry. The rx-v485's five-channel amplifier section is rated at 80 watts (into 8?, at 20-20khz, with 0.09% thd, driving 2 channels). The receiver also houses three ultra-high performance 384khz/32-bit burr-brown dacs with independent power supplies. These high-quality dacs support in reproducing audio for high resolution sound sources without noise. Moreover, a new high sound quality ic is employed for volume control and large heat sinks suppress vibration. Down to every detail, the yamaha av receiver is designed with full emphasis on the highest possible sound quality. Amplifier assignment: the yamaha rx-v485 allows you to assign its five amplifier channels for surround speakers, bi-amped front speakers, or zone b speakers. Surround (5.1ch): five speakers are powered in the main room; including front left/right, center, & surround left/right. Bi-amp (3.1ch): three speakers are powered in the main room (front left/right & center) with the surround amplifier channels reassigned to bi-amp the front speakers. A bi-amplification connection uses two amplifiers for one speaker. One amplifier is connected to the woofer section of a loudspeaker while the other is connected to the combined midrange and tweeter section. With this arrangement, each amplifier operates over a limited frequency range, making its job easier. Zone b (3.1ch): zone b allows the av receiver to send 2-channel stereo audio to speakers in a second room. The main zone will be limited to 3-channel output, while the same source is played back in 2ch stereo in a another room. Zone b always mirrors the audio output in the main zone. You can choose for the main zone & zone b to share the same volume setting or have independent volume control. Multichannel sources are mixed down to 2-channels and output to the second listening area.
